Transport and Local Infrastructure Planning
Transporting quarry materials is expensive, and the greater the distance between a quarry and its final use, the higher the cost. As well as this, additional transport distances impact the broader community through increased truck movements and road congestion. That's why transport and local infrastructure planning is a key theme in the Helping Victoria Grow: Extractive Resources Strategy.
By informing transport and local infrastructure planning, the Victorian Government aims to:
- determine transport impacts and network development needs to support growth in the quarrying industry
- improve the efficiency of transporting heavy construction materials
- improve network capacity, access and productivity of heavy vehicles transporting construction materials
