Licensing fees and charges
Fees and penalties
For all Earth Resources Regulation fees and charges please refer to the Resources section of the Fees and charges page on the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action website.
Royalties
Section 12 of the Mineral Resources (Sustainable Development) Act 1990 requires holders of mineral licences to pay royalties according to the value of the resources they extract.
In 2013 an external review recommended that Earth Resources Regulation update the process that holders of mineral licences use to report their mining royalty information. These recommendations included updating royalty information sheets.
Royalty information sheets
Royalty information sheets allow licensees to meet their obligation to report royalties. There are separate royalty information sheets for the following commodity streams:
- Minerals
- Extractives
Gold royalty
From 1 January 2020, gold produced under a mining licence in Victoria will be subject to a 2.75 per cent royalty. The royalty will only apply to gold produced in a financial year in excess of 2,500 ounces.
The new regulations, Notice of Decision and Statement of Reasons that outlines the changes to the state’s royalty regime can be found on the Engage Victoria website.
