Golden Beach Gas Project

Background

GB Energy is proposing to develop the Golden Beach Gas Project to provide gas supply and storage infrastructure to Australia’s east coast energy market.

The Golden Beach gas field, located in the Gippsland Basin, is in state waters approximately three kilometres offshore making the project visible from the shore.

The first stage of the project involves drilling an appraisal well, the outcomes of which will inform the design and operation of the proposed production and storage wells and associated infrastructure.

More information about the Golden Beach Gas Project is available on the GB Energy website.

Current status

In May 2023, the Minister for Energy and Resources accepted GB Energy’s environment plan to drill the Golden Beach-2 appraisal well. A summary of the plan is available on the environment plans page.

Earth Resources Regulation is working closely with the National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority (NOPSEMA) to ensure that compliance inspections related to the drilling of the appraisal well are being undertaken and the company is complying with its approvals.

Earth Resources Regulation will monitor the offshore activity of the program to ensure alignment with GB Energy’s environment plan and compliance with the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act 2010.
