Minerals
Victoria is endowed with a diverse and valuable range of mineral resources. Gold and a suite of critical minerals - such as titanium, zirconium and rare earth elements found in mineral sands - are prevalent across the state. Victoria also hosts significant deposits of gypsum and kaolin.
Central Victoria is home to Australia's only producing antimony mine and continues to attract interest with a number of antinomy exploration projects active in the region.
Our geoscience data also highlights strong potential for copper, zinc, silver, and nickel deposits.
In recent years Victoria’s gold sector has experienced a strong resurgence. There’s also been substantial exploration activity focussed on identifying and defining mineral sand resources in the state’s northwest.
The state’s abundant mineral resources indicate strong potential for future development. For more information about Victoria’s resource potential visit our minerals resources development page.

Victoria's golden history
Since the discovery of gold in Victoria in 1851, mineral resources have played a central role in our economic and cultural expansion. More than 5,000 licences have been granted under the minerals legislative regime and approximately 40 percent of the state is covered by exploration licences.
