Securing future quarry resources

Strategic Extractive Resource Areas (SERAs) are now in place at Lang Lang, Oaklands Junction and Trafalgar.
SERAs ensure future quarry resources are protected so that the state’s construction sector will continue to have access to affordable raw materials to build the homes and essential infrastructure that Victoria needs.
SERAs provide greater clarity about where future quarries might be developed and ensure the resources are not built over by other land uses.
In 2021 SERAs were established in two locations within the South Gippsland and Wyndham local council areas. This helps ongoing access to local rock and sand in key growth areas and supports affordable construction over time.
